    Re: new guy need help!!!

Slow down on the water changes. Your fish are fairly more tolerant to nitrites than most of the other marine fishes. Do a large water change every 4 days until nitrites read below 0.2 ppm, then return water changes to a regular 'normal' schedule. Make sure you're testing with a nitrite test kit (not strips).

Make no changes to the system - no additions or changes to equipment - until nitrites are reading zero or 'none detected.'

Ok sounds good Lee. Did you mean nitrites reach 0 and not nitrates? I just want to be sure.

You're fast! When I re-read my post just after posting it, I caught the nitrates error and changed it. But you're probably reading the post that was e-mailed to you, with the error.

    I do mean nitrites.

    Re: new guy need help!!!

I was just pokin' around and found this horrific thread. "Cycle the tank with a trigger and a grouper??????" Man that's the worst advice I've ever heard. For a 55 gallon even. Man oh man. And buy a UV sterilizer with only two fish in the tank (cause you won't be able to fit anything else in there)?????? Why buy a UV sterilizer from that LFS to protect the fish that (using their advice) were going to be left to drown in their own urine? Worst LFS story I've ever heard.

Sounds like help has arrived. Lee should get you straightened out.
