    goby and stuff advice. :)

hello, i started my 29 gallon about three weeks ago with about 20 lbs. of live rock, I tested everything until Ammonia and nitrite levels were at zero, i also have about 3 inches of substrate, after about a week i added a small damsel, last week 3 green chromis, and yesterday a diamond orange spotted goby, as of now everything seems to be going great accept my damsel has become a little shy, i have been feeding them formula one and everyone seems ti be eating except for the goby, he just sifts the sand, there is not alot of algae in my tank, there is some brown stuff, cyano? on my sand though, is that enough? thanks

The speed of adding fish is way too fast for the biological filter and other microbes to keep up with the changes. This is the proper pace: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium

Your tank should right now be filled with the basic clean up crew and no fishes. The brown 'algae' is cyano and indicates poor water quality and an excess of silica in the water.

Yes you are right, i jumped in a little to fast, as of now all my water parameters are good, except my blue damsel who has been in the aquarium about 2 weeks became shy when i added the 3 chromis, he eventually stopped eating, developed a white "moustache" ick? then died the next day, so now i have the chromis and my goby and everything seems to be going okay, they are all eating and the goby has been taking care of the cyano, also i was told while cycling the tank i should remove the filter cartridge for a while, i put it back in tonight, and the water is clear, i plan on doing a water change tomorrow. any advice? thanks a bunch for your help.

If there is disease in your tank, it won't go a way on its own. It will just wait for the next opportunity to show itself.

Water quality is much more than the things we test for. To get an idea of what I mean, you should read this post: What is Water Quality.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd recommend you test for ammonia and nitrite, using a test kit, four times a day for the next three days and verify that throughout the day, especially one and two hours after feeding, there is no traces of these poisons.

Slow down. Make no further changes to your tank. Read up on the right ways of doing things and check out some of the other posts in these forums:

    Good luck! Keep on reading/learning!
