    Brownish Spots on Yellow Tang

Hello all this is my first post on here! Yayyy!

I have a concern and i do not know how serious it might be! I noticed brownish spots on my yellow tang! I
have a 55 gallon saltwater fish only tank with base rock, a flame angel, butterfly, maroon clown, domino damsel, blue damsel, and a 4 bar damsel. I have not noticed anything on the other fish. The tang is eating, and swimming normal. I tested my nitrate, nitrite, ph, phosphate, ammonia, salinity, and everything checked out okay.

I read through the posts in relation to the same issue, and have not been able to come up with a solid conclusion. I am doing a 10% water change tomorrow. I feed the fish a pinch of flakes around 7am, a block of frozen brine shrimp around 3pm, and some more flakes at around 7.

Does anyone have any advice as to what this might be, or what I should do?

I have a aquarium book, and it said that a fresh water dip should helpo with fungus', bacteria, and most other kinds of problems. What does anyone think of this?

    Any advice is appreciated!

If the book truly says that a FW dip helps with those conditions, then throw the book away. While spending time doing such a thing and expecting results, the fish could easily die from any of those conditions. To help a fish recover from disease, the best diagnosis you can get is the start, then the proper treatment for that particular problem is the way to go. I'm not saying there isn't a time and place for a FW dip, but it is not the 'general answer' like implied in the book's statement.

A picture would help. Are you sure the spots are not black? I also need to know the size of these spots. We talking the size of a grain of salt or more lit a tiny spot made by a pin prick?

The foods your feeding are substandard for the nutritional requirements of your fish. They need better nutrition. I suggest you read through this post and understand where I'm coming from:
Feeding Marine Fish and Fish Nutrition

That is about all I can say at this point in time. A picture is best to provide. However in the meantime, look through the Internet for Yellow Tangs that are infected with "Black Ich" and see of that is what your fish looks like.

They are not small spots like you mentioned, more like blemishes. I did a water change and cut down on the amount of food i give them. I read that might play a roll in it. I am also keeping a close eye on the other fish, and they seem okay! I did a water change yesterday, so we shall see if that helps.

I am going to read what you said to read right now.

    Thank you for your reply,.

Reducing the amount of food is usually never the right answer. Just be sure the fish is getting the right kinds of food and plenty of it, several times (several feedings) a day.
