Hah, She won![]()
Hey all! This is the beginning of my first fowlr tank. i presently have a 75 reef and need to get some PIA fish out of it. I pick up the tanks and equip tonight and will begin as soon as i get home. i plan on doing a good size water change and using that water along with all that gets vacced up to start the tank. as for equipment, i cant say yet because i havent seen it. but it was all for a salt tank and will have a 10 gal fuge for sure. this tank is being set up because of my wifes fishshe wanted what she wanted and now they gotta get the he&^ outta my tank...the good side of it is i get a place to throw all my xenia and shrooms in her tank since those are also hers....no, this is not a divorce or any domestic issues...well, maybe a little domestic...i do want to kinda slap her around with the maroon clown
Just kidding, so dont go all crazy on me...i love my pia wife more than life itself but her fish are really......well, you get the idea.
All kidding aside, the tank will have a Hippo,maroon,coral beauty, and a blue devil and whatever else the mrs adds...we are going into this with her saying whole heartedly that she will maintain it...we'll see;;

yep, she didthe trip last night was a little disappointing. our friend told beth he had the tank set up for a shark that got over a foot long and he had rocks and pumps and all that.....when we got there i figured out quicky that it was a fresh water shark and the pumps were air pumps and plastic rocks
.....so i ended up with a 10,20 and a 45 gal with stock .lights.......so, i still need a skimmer and will set up the 20 and do a nano for the 'roon and devil and turn the 45 into a nice little sump/fuge for the 75 or maybe use the 45 for the roon. i dont know...we'll see when i get home from work today.
Hate it when that happens, you'll figure it out, I set the 45/10 gallon sump for the roon and blue devil, and use the 20 for a qt

thats prob what i'll end up doing. i am thinking though of just doing a 20 gal nano with a 10 sump for the roon and devil also and turnign the 45 into a sump for the 75....i like that more because it limits the wife on what she can do...i have today to think about it and plan it out...ill most likely do the 45 though...she wants to have a nem for hte roon real bad.
Twisty,
I think you might run into trouble with a nem. in the 45, I'm not real sure which ones the maroon will host with, Lee's awake, so I hope he chimes in. The 45 might not be big enough for the larger nems. we'll have to do some research..

yeah, i been doing some reading on them. things in the tank seem to have settled down. the percula is hanging with the froggy and the roon is chillin with the brain and has been real gentle with it.that kinda puts me at ease a little. i did lose 3 heads to the frog so there are 4 heads left, but they look real healthy. the three i lost makes me wonder if i dint damage it while finding a spt in the tank.the stuff that the cb was picking on must have been dying stuff cuz it hasnt bothered it since. im gonna set up the 20 with sand and some rock and just let it do its thing and figure everything out ffrom there...im just beat from this past week and dont want to do anything half a$$. so just a water change into the 20 and let things be and see what happens. i can always put the brain in the 20 while i set up the 45.
The 45 would make a bad a$$ nano tank![]()

yeah, i would be sweet. i did set the 20 up today with a sand bed and filter. i picked up a marineland hang on filter for the time being till i figure out what im gonna do. eventually the 20 will be a qt and the 45 will be a nano. i plan to drill the 45 and want to take my time with this and treat it like a baby version of the big tank that is soon to come. im gonna build a stand and all for it and give it to my wife the way it should be done. all the fish have mellowed out on the new stuff so i can wait for the 20 to break in a little before the roon gets his temporary new home. i actually think i might like the 20 and do a zoa tank or something....once the big tank is done they all get broken down so i might as well use as much as i can for collecting stuff for the big tank. its gonna look bare for a long time if i dont![]()
the roons new home. still need to grab a few more pieces of rock but its a start. ill have the skimmer on monday or tommorrow.
That sounds like a plan, I'm doing the same thing, with the amount of time it's gonna take to get moved, and get the 180, build the stand, get the lights and the other equipment it's gonna be a long build, so I've decided to turn the current 55 into a softies tank, and just get a new 55 for the 180's sump. I just can't keep looking at the 55 sitting pretty much barren in the living room, you can only look at sponge for so long then it starts getting to ya![]()

i hear ya man, the 20 cleared up real nice and today i threw a chunk of cheato in there to get some pods and stuff started.i also threw in a few hermies and snails to clean up the rock a little. i decided im gonna run the 20 into the big tanks fuge if i can figure out how to balance it out. id rather deal with one flavor of water. i also ordered a light for the 20...150 wtts and im gonna pick up a few koralia's this weekend for both tanks

Sounds like a plan, good luck getting them to balance, let me know how that works out

i forgot to add...beth likes the 20 and wants to keep it that way, so the 45 will be turned into a sump/ fuge
for both the 20 and the 75. i think i can make it work like that. i really dont want to have 2 tanks that have different chemistry and the 45 should be plenty big enough.
the only thing I could see going wrong with the dual tanks and 1 sump would be if something goes wrong with one, well you know the rest. Other than that it's gonna be the balance that might give you a rash, the problem I think would be matching overflows and pumps for 2 drastically different size tanks.

i am going to approach it like i would a pool build. i work with balancing tanks and overflows , gravity skimmers all that so, i think if i can downsize my thinking....worse case scenario i can divide the 45 with a wall and have 2 in 1 and have a nice 30 gal sump/fuge for the 75 getting me 20 more gal for that side and 15 for the nano. the down side is im back to two water params. unless i added an overflow in the middle of them and matched up a pump to send it back. that should be pretty easy.
Glad you understand what the He#$ you just said![]()
