Where does the best live rock come from?

Hi,

I am ordering live rock from a wholesaler in LA, and I was wondering where I should get the rock from. I was figuring fiji would be the best bet...

Where do all of you think the best uncured LR comes from?

That all depends on what you think "best " is . For filtration capacity the pacific rock is most porous and therefore offers more surface area which means more bactria colonies. For "hitch hikers " the gulf aqua-cultured rock that I have seen is probably some of the most inhabited. This rock though is very dense and does not provide the denitrifying capacity that the more porous rock does.So depending on what you want out of your rock either could be best. Its my opinion that the Fiji , Manano , and Marshall island make the best rock . It has the filtering capabilities you want and you can always add critters and such .

if you can get it i would definitely go woth Manano, i started with fiji but when i found manano i replaced almost all my pieces with it. the pieces are usually great shapes and large sixes and a 7 lb piece of manano would be the same size as about a 12lb piece of fiji. (fiji being incredibly dense) which would mean that there would be much less water displacement with manano than with fiji. the only drawback is that manano is more brittle than fiji...hth
