You can move as much of the water as you want, including 'very little' of it. There is no need to use the same water.
If you replace water, it is just like a water change. However, you must control the new water going in, in the sense that it seems the same to the fish. You don't want the fish or any marine lifeform to 'notice' the new water is different. So the new water must match the old/current water the fish live in. Also, introducing the fish to the relocated tank should just be like an abbreviated acclimation process: It Was Acclimation, I know. . .
