    fry survival problem

I am attempting to raise clown babies with not a lot of success and I would like to figure out why. I have done everything exactly as recomended, but my fry don' t live past seven days! I have them in the following conditions. Three gallon black plastic tubs , Temp. 78, salinity depends on broodstock water, (I am raising eggs from a friends' fish-mine aren't spawning yet), the lighting is subdued, I feed rotifers every three to four hours, I feed rotifer food to the fry tank to help keep the rotifers gut loaded. Because of the resulting am. spikes, I also keep a continuous drip going with fresh broodstock water. The lights are on for about 12 hours. I hear of people having great success with accidental arrival of fry, and they don't even try, so what am I doing wrong? I am wondering if there is any chance that the broodstock fish are receiving the proper diet, (I am grasping at straws) Hopefully my fish will spawn soon and I will be able to compare. I feed my clowns a varied diet including supplemental huffas, squid, frozen brine shrimp etc. and live brine shrimp that I culture myself. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you

I am not a professional by any means whe it comes to breeding Clownfish, or any fish for that matter, however, it may be that the fry are dying of starvation. Are you feeding LIVE Rotifers? Clownfish fry will only eat live food, I guess.

    Re: fry survival problem

HI, I am waiting for my eggs to hatch. I visited a local fish store yesterday where they breed clown fish. I had about 2 hrs of theoretical training session on how to do this whole collecting the fry to keeping them alive. Also bought a hang on tank which can be kept inside the main aquarium so I dont have to bother about water quality. I posted a similar message and got no response (which is a surprise here)... but anyway, I will keep you updated in this thread....

    Cheers / Sashi

First I don't know anything about raising Clown Fry however it's one of my long ranged goals.
This book CLOWNFISHES by Joyce D Wilkerson has everything you need in it. I have not had the time to read it all yet but several chapters deal with fry. Hope this helps.

You are on a topic where, most the hobbyists on this forum, can't help you.

There are several books on the subject and there are web sites with specific information on the subject. Just search the Internet. You'll find those who have much more experience in other Forums.

Hi. Yep, the rotifers are alive and they also reproduce in the fry tanks. They also get a feeding of hufas before they are fed to the clowns

I really hate posting this and may get in trouble for doing so, but considering that there aren't many people on this forum that do what you are asking about, I'll take the risk.

Please, Please, Please read the following thread starting at the beginning. (Obviously not all at once )
