    Question New FOWLR

    Hi to all! I'm in the process of re-doing my former reef tank and turning it into a FOWLR. Doing this for reasons too numerous to mention here [and boring as well!]. My tank is a 110 gal, berlin system with a 30gal sump. I'm currently running the tank [going on 2 weeks now] with base rock and a non-live type coarse sand [looks more like crushed coral]. I will be seeding the tank with several pieces of LR this week and have already done a 10% water change at the end of the first week. I have intentions of doing the water changes in this amount every week.
    My question is this: I have intentions of having only one fish [Picasso Triggerfish] and am considering a CUC but I don't know what to get. I don't want anything that the Triggerfish will consider lunch. Any suggestions? Mexican Turbo's possibly? Thanks to all in advance!

    I was almost tempted to move your post into the Reef Forum. But it has a mix of subjects. I can provide this for you to consider in your setup process: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium

    Regarding finding a proper cucumber, I don't know of any that would be compatible with this fish. For a couple of reasons: This Trigger is known to be a bit aggressive as it gets older. The fish hunts substrate/benthic creatures and would find a cucumber. Lastly, it will try to eat almost anything -- they always seem to be 'starving.'

    Lee, I believe he was referring to a clean up crew, with the mention of Mexican turbo snails kinda gave it away;;;;;;

    as for the clean up crew you are pretty much stuck with manual removal of algea etc. because of your choice of fish, no invert would be safe or last very long, as Lee pointed out that fish will live to eat, not eat to live, they can and will be nasty little dudes

    Re: New FOWLR

    I did mean 'clean up crew' but who's really counting? LOL Thanks to Lee for his very informative response.....cucumber or not! I'll rely on my PS and carbon filter for my clean up crew. I have difficulty [?] picturing a 5 or 6 inch trigger munching on a Mexican Turbo who's at least 1" across!!!
    But, my SW experience has been with chromis, damsels, gobies, peppermint shrimp and a horrible mantis shrimp who hitchhiked his way into my tank and made himself quite at home! This will be the first time I'll have a FOWLR with a single fish that supposedly has 'attitude'!
    Thanks again to all!

    Charlie,

    It's not the picture of the trigger munching on the mexican turbo's shell, he will flip it over and have turbo snail on the half shell:eek3::eek3::eek3:, and all triggers have an attitude, some just not as bad as others

    Robert,
    Interesting comment about the trigger! I got rid of two wives that acted the same way....now I'm getting a fish with the same headset. Maybe I should start an ant farm!

    Naw, the fish is cool, ex wives are just straight out meat eaters, ants can be just as bad, remember our fire ants:eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3:
