    Peppermint shrimp to kill aptasia

Howdy from Upstate SC....totally new to this saltwater tank stuff. And, by the way--totally loving my tank, fish and rocks.
My problem is: I bought a fabulous live rock yesterday...In the store we noticed some Kenya Trees and a few tiny feather dusters (which I actually love to look at). However, also found it to have a couple of small aptasia's. Read on here that peppermint shrimp are a good, natural way to eliminate the aptasia vs chemical treatment. Question: Will the peppermint shrimp harm anything else in my tank?
    55 gallon Tank contents:
    Live rock (approx 25+ pounds)
    Yellow tang
    clown fish
    2 damsels
    "Clean-up crew"
    snails, tiny hermit crabs
    Feather dusters and Kenya Trees

    Also--how many pepermint shrimp?
    Thanks in advance!!

Berghia Nudibranches (sea slugs) are supposed to be one of the most effective Aiptasia predators. Not sure about Peppermints.
BTW, you probably want to get at least another 25 lbs of base rock in your tank when you make the move to a reef system, and lose any wet/dry bio filtration you might be using now. You'll also need a protein skimmer for a reef.

I know we need more live rock--my hubby was reeling from the first 2 trips I made to the store.......Over $100 each time. He loves the tank but thought I was getting "carried away". With the addition of this recent rock he has spent many, many idle moments just staring at it....all the little "life" moving around and how the resident fish seem to use it for a great buffet...
In time it will happen.....main focus right now must be power head and protein skimmer....and lose the nasty aiptasia.

You can just add dry/base rock now...doesn't need to be live as long as you have LR already in the tank...this will seed the base rock, and you'll save a bundle. Base rock generally costs about a third of LR if not less.

Another way to get rid of them is to inject them with kalkwasser paste. I've heard a lot people has success with that.
