    power head size

Hi folks im running a 75gal fowlr with a proflex 3 sump turnover rate is around 600 gal hr have 75lbs of lr was thinki.g about putting two koralia 425 on each side for water circulation on the lower part of the tank. Not sure if two 750 would be overkill thxs in the future maybe adding a couple mushrooms

From my previous readings in this forum from some of the "Higher" educated individuals, I was told that a turnover of 8-10 times the size of your tank in gallons including your filters.

I have a 55 and I have a Kolalia 750 plus a magnum 350 canister. I'm pushing about 900 gallons per hr and it seems like its going well. My backpack protein skimmer works even better with the high flow rate. Good turn over in the tank I suppose.. I hope that gives you some direction, and maybe someone else will give some input on here for you as well.

well since your tank is 4 feet long id lean twords 2 750's if and when you add corals add 2 more lower rated ones the smaller ones should have thier flow closer to the bottom with the larger ones kinda higher up maybe with 1 causing some mild ripples the reason for this is normaly the water flow is lower on the bottom then the top in the ocean i guess the 2 will be ok but test the flow yourself before adding additional powerheads. a way you can tell the flow diretion speed and intesity would be a electronic thermometer with a probe. and also when you fead food like brine shrimp of mysid shrimp and watch them in the tank to see how ong they circle for before seteling to the bottom and base you purchases on that

Do the calculation to be sure. Add up all water circulation as gallons/hour. Your tank, if FOWLR should have no less than 8X the total volume turned over every hour.

You can go up to 20X without a problem for the fish, but to exceed 20 is energy wasteful.
