    How much do blennies eat?

I have a 40 gallon FOWLR. The stock is a pair of ocerallis clowns, a purple stripe dottyback, and a sailfin tang. For cleanup i have 3 nassarius snails, 3 reef tip hermit crabs, a pincushion urchin, and a peppermint shrimp. I have enough to support everything in my tank right now and i was wondering if i could ad a lawnmower or a stary blenny; first would it be happy and second how much do they eat. Thanks in advance

IMO you should have stopped at the dottyback. I would not recommend any more fish, and you'll need to rehome the tang when it matures.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

The tang is only a juvenile, 3inches or so; i plan on taking him back once he gets too big. And ive had the system up for a solid 5 months with all of the forementioned additions (excluding the tang who i added a few weeks ago) and its been very stable since then. So would say its a healthy tank IMO, the fish are all happy looking, the shrip has molted at a healthy rate, the urchin is still bright, and the crabs are getting along just well oh and i have two filters one a rena smart filter with two cartridges and an aqueon with bio media. The only thing that i need to get fixed in the tank is some slime /: anything besides a blenny i could add that churns up the substrate? but thanks for the imput

    You bet.

You're set up good for a FOWLR, although consdering the inverts you've got, it really should be treated as a reef in order to better manage nitrates which will poison them over time, depending on how bad. Have you tested for them lately?

The proven filtration setup for a reef would be Live Rock only, no man made bio media, sponges or floss, and a protein skimmer.

Got any power heads? Red slime tends to pop up in low flow areas of the tank. Good circulation goes a long way.
How about water perameters? What do you test for and what are the measurements?

Re: How much do blennies eat?

For my whole setup i have a marineland maxi pump(200 i think), The two forementioned filters, two heaters set to 78(does heat effect slime?), a zoo med reef sun light, and a bubbler(does this do anything for slime?) and the water quality is damn near perfect. I really just need something to stir the sand a little; its not a full out invasion but its deffinately there. so any suggestions? thanks so far ill try better placing the power head today and see if that helps out. picks coming too...

I'd say you're clean up crew is a bit small. Maybe get like 30 nassarius snails. They are relatively small and do a pretty good job of stirring up the top layer of the sand.
I would definitely get additional CUC members over another fish.

Your system is slightly overstocked now. Don't add anything.

Re: How much do blennies eat?

I am new to all of this so you can take my advise with a grain of salt but I bought a lawnmower blenny to clean my sand and he doesn't do a very good job at all. He likes to nip at LR more that the sand substrate and he poops large amounts that add to the sand problem. Mine also loves to eat flake food that I feed my fish but I think that is because he's hungry. I think he might be getting skinny. So my answer I guess is yes he eats alot.
PS He also tries eating my clownfish.
