how to properly stock a 100 gallon with QT

o im new on this forum but have been lurking around reef central for quite a while.

I am new to the saltwater game and already made my fair share of dumb mistakes so i wanted to get your opinion on some things.

I currently have a 100 gallon folwer w/ live rock (or what i think is live rock covered in coraline), 15 gallon sump, g3 skimmer, 3 koralia power heads (and 2 more maxijets if i need them).

Originally i had the following fish: yellow tang/blue tang / flame angel (all purchased from the same place together), 5 or so blue green chromies and they were all doing ok for a while (about a month). I went to a store and ran into a juvie dusty batfish (black/orange trim). Usually i dont buy on a hunch but my phone died as i was loading the screen to look up the fish. obviously its a tough fish to keep and they grow into huge ugly bastards. Anyway, the store owner didnt do me any favors by saying it stays 5-6 inches long and ofcourse failed to inform me they change colors.

Anyway i didnt have a qt set up, brought the batfish home, dumped him into DT (after dripping). He stayed there for a week or so and got ich - died. after that the blue tang got ich.

I cleaned out my 40 gallon freshwater and set it up as a quarantine - sort of treatment tank. I caught all the fish (at this point some chromies, yellow tang and flame angel) and put them into the 40. What was left in the DT was rock/sand and 4 shrimp --2 cleaner and 2 fire shrimp)

I slowly dropped the salinity of the "treatment" to 1.09-1.10 over the next few days and during that time the flame angel died (no ich on him). Long story short, the only surviver is the yellow tang. He's been in there for a few weeks and is a champ.. eats like a pig, no spots etc. I know to keep him in here for 8 weeks under hyposalinity then i can move him over to DT.

Here is my q. If i want to avoid territorial behavior with another tang, how should i do the moving / buying of the fish? i would like to have the yellow tang, powder brown tang (if its possible), a flame angel or two.

How would you recommend i move the powder brown / angels into the system? Should i wait until the 2-3 months is up and the yellow tang is back in the DT before buying those fish and putting them into the 40 gallon qt? or should i add them into the 40qt w/ the yellow on the back end of the 4-8 week period of hyposalinity?

I know its a lot of info for a question but you guys seem to be a much better to ask then most petstore owners.

    thanks

Whomever you are getting or have gotten advice from should not be listened to. There are a few observations I would make from the information you provided.

    1. Treatment of Marine Ich is not 'standard.'
    2. Time for hyposalinity is incorrect.
    3. Aquarium is not suitable for ANY Tang, except for juveniles and then, only a few months to a year.
    4. Adding too many fish into the aquarium at the same time is an error in fish husbandry.
    5. Not using the quarantine system -- you know that.
    6. Not investigating the life form you want before acquisition.

In the above observations is pretty much the answer to your question -- keep no Tangs in that aquarium.

As for more details and better guidance, these are all good reads:

I'd further suspect your sources haven't given good advice on the follow topics, either:

I think you'll find this forum a good source of information, without myths and very little anecdotal information. This link goes to a list of other topics, if you haven't found them already:
