    Smile Carbon

How many of my new friends have a problem with using carbon in a tank that is cycling?
This is the first time with carbon included in the filter. Please help if you've tried, and have good or bad things to say about it.

    All help is appreaciated,
    Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

    Re: Carbon

I cycled with carbon pads...I don't believe any harm came of it.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

    Re: Carbon

Do you guys think it "slowed" the process? Tank and QT were set up 17 days ago and show > 0 amonia & 0 nitrites. I'm confused with these readings as I think there should be at least some sign of contamination. No water changes as of yet!

    Thanks again for your help!

    Re: Carbon

That's tough to say. Carbon pads had no effect on my tank and it was done in about 1 1/2 months. It may be something else so we would need to understand a few things:

    - how did you cycle? Fish/fishless? Ammonia? Nothing
    - did you use supplements or additives to "enhance" the cycle time (ie MicroBacter7)
    - what kind of skimmer/how much does it run? what else are you running
    - how much live rock and sand - how was it cured/seeded respectively

If you measured Ammonia and Nitrites each day, did they drop? Do you have measurable nitrates?

Sorry so many questions - and there are probably more - but this is a tough question to answer.
