lionfish are predators of the reef thier mouth is huge so look at its mouth size. krill is agood food choice if its to small for silversides and if they are to big you can always try ghost shrimp. from what ive come to understand try to avoid feeding any freshwater fish or inverts as theres a differnce in theier fat and amino acids that can cause issues with the lion. as for its lazyness well they are for the most part ambush predators so they kinda like to chill and wait for food

    Re: Lionfish help!

I went to wal mart to get some ghost shrimp, the only place where i live that sell ghost shrimp, but i was just curious if ghost shrimp last awhile, like i said my lionfish is like 1 to 1 1/2 inches long, he only ate one of the 8 i put in there, i thought that they might live for awhile because i did some research and some people said they could live for 2 hour to 2 weeks but they are all dead now will he eat the dead ones on the floor of the tank? or should i just buy a 10 gallon freshwater tank put those shrimp in there every couple of days? or how often. thx for the tip tho, i see nthe lionfish eat for the first time which was really nice.

    Re: Lionfish help!

take out any dead or face amonia issues and try some krill if they are small enough , the brand i use is sally something . if u wanted u can set up a tiny 2.5-5 gallon tank with a simple box filter run by a air pump and not much else but maybe a small cave type rock that dosent have any hard to reach spots that can be shaken to get any hiders out to feed. but get him used to frozen krill.
