Can scissor tail gobies be kept singly?

Was thinking about getting a scissor tail goby for my 30 gallon tank. Would they be happy alone or do I need to get another one for it to pair since I hear they should be kept in pairs? Has anyone been able to keep them alone with other fish? Are they really shy alone or what?

I have a pajama cardinal, tail spot blenny, and yellow assessor.

Not the answer you were looking for, I'm sure, but by "Yellow Assessor" do you mean Assessor flavissimus? If so, then I would recommend to stop adding fishes to that aquarium and keep the current bio-load as is.

Yeah thats what I meant. Why are they really aggressive or something?

I was not thinking in terms of community, but of bio-load. The fish you have now, when full adult grown, will add up to about 8 inches of fish. 8" in 30 gallons would be slightly past the recommended stocking limit.

However, the Assessor and Goby would tend to want to grab bottom space to call their own and thus not leave enough territory for both.
