    50 gallon tank

Having trouble picking some fish for my 50 gallon tank. Have 2 clowns and a boxer shrimp in it right now. Girlfriend wants a pacific blue tang but i keep telling her that the tank is to small. any idea on good looking fish i could put in there so i dont have to hear her say how boring the tank looks. also ideas for a star fish? thanks

Is it a reef tank, or do you plant add corals down the road? If so, this narrows the choices considerably.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Have three pieces of live rock right now with live sand. May add a bubble anemone for the clowns but that will probably be it

A 50 is too small for tangs, but as long as you never intend to go reef, check these ones out:

    - dwarf angels like the coral beauty, or bi-color.
    -some of the smaller butterfly's
    -foxface/rabbitfish
    -smaller wrasses

    Some nice reef safe fish:

    -Bangaii or spotted cardinals
    -purple firefish
    -blennies
    -gobies

Starfish, anemones and most other invertebrates are going to be iffy with a lot of those non-reef fish I mentioned...in many cases, they'll pick at them till the stress does them in.

I might add, that they don't like being picked at, at all.

I think i am going to go with a auriga butterfly for now. then wait awhile before maybe adding a dwarf bi color angel. do you see any problems happening between my coral banded shrimp and the butterfly?

I have a bi color angel and a CBS that do fine with eachother... Butterflies, I'm not experienced with, but from what I remember reading, many of them will try to eat smaller shrimp, so is the Auriga one of those, and is the CBS big enough not to be a target? Not sure, but the word iffy comes to mind again. You'll find a lot of that in this hobby. Some will say they had luck, while others may not.

You might try re-posting that specific question in the fish only forum and wait for a response from Lee.
