    skinny clownfish

My clownfish got so skinny when we had a damsel in there with him. I have been trying to fatten him back up. Does anyone have any advice for the best feeding schedule or foods? We got rid of the damsel to a guy who has an all damsel tank so no more fighting Yay! He is all alone in the 35 gal tank, just him and the live rock.

Mysis Shrimp, and some flake. You pick the times. If you feed him 2 times a day , that should fatten hiim right up.

He should be getting plenty fat off of mysis, but it's always a good idea to soak them in vitamins too...selcon is a good brand.

Is it possible that the fish might have worms? That would cause malnourishment. Does it have white stringy poop? If so, you'll want to treat his food with a dewormer like praziquantel.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

nope, no funky poop. He is coming out more that he is alone. the damsel was nipping his fins off and chasing him down all the time. He has only been alone for a few days.

I do believe that remove that nasty fish resolved your problem with the Clown.

He was the very first SWF I got, but it is hard to find something to get along with them. and clowns are so much fun. I will feed him a little a few times a day until he plumps up, thanks everyone.

    jdicu,

Please read through this post: Fish Health through Proper Nutrition

I've been into ornamental marine fish nutrition since the early 70's: Bio - Lee (a.k.a. leebca)

In that first linked post you find information regarding pellet, flake, and disc foods, check under the heading of Flake, Pellet, Stick, and Disk Foods. You'll read how these forms of fish foods are not the best.

The Anemonefishes (Clown fishes) are omnivores and need greens as well as meaty foods. Look for frozen foods that contain macro algae as well as meaty sea foods. Choose only foods that contain sea products (not land products). Avoid foods that contain brine shrimp. Provide a variety of foods and like the information given in that first linked post, add vitamin and fat supplements to the foods you feed. There is much more good info in that first linked post.

Then feed no less than 3 times per day -- 5 if you can. They don't and shouldn't be huge feedings, but small frequent meals is the best.

    Good luck!
    LEE
