15 years ago I kept a 75 gal. reef tank. It has been a long time. Recently I had the chance to purchase a 29 gal salt tank since the owner was upgrading to a 55. The tank was broke down on a Monday and I had salt water in it on Tues. Since his tank looked healthy before his upgrade I decided to give him the 80 bucks for tank, stand, modified hood and filter.
Tuesday. I mixed Oceanic water and kept his filter media wet with salt water while doing so to try and save some of his bacteria. The tank had a artificial stone wall , somewhat porous, built inside the tank. I purchased a heater and thermometer as well as 2 cheap wall lamp timers for the two T10s system and for the two T5s fixture modified in the hood. The hood and filter are a Eclipse 3 which I am not fond of but will do for now since he kept his tank running on it for a year. I place 2-2.5 inches crushed coral substrate and began running the system.
Thursday: I found 20 lbs of base rock at 1.00 a lb local and placed in the tank
.
Wednesday: I purchase 5 lbs live rock and place in the system to help seed things.
Saturday: Water PH perfect and amonia at 2.0. Temp a steady 76F. I plan to do water tests again Monday (Labor Day)
Ok folks it has been a long time so I consider myself a rookie. All helpful comments welcome. I plan on a stock of 4 small fish and a Nem. I plan to add a protein skimmer if needed. The first pic are after base rock only. 2nd pic with live rock.
