Omega One vs Hikari fish food!

Okay soooo i have a 100g coral reef fish tank! It will contain (already contains peppermint shrimp, scarlet skunk cleaner, green chromis, and purple chromis. i am feeding them frozen mysis shrimp from Hikari only right now), percula clownfish, blue tang as a baby, firefish, neon goby, and a convict tang.
I have to decide between these two fish brands,
    Omega One
    or
    Hikari
(and is New Life Spectrum pellets great for tangs?)

Omega One's - freeze dried mysis, marine flakes

    Hikari's - Marine-S, seaweed extreme

Don't feed fish flake food. The other stuff you listed are fine. You can also feed the Tang, Romaine Lettuce. If you feed pellets, and they are not eaten, your gonna have issues with trate build up.

+1 I feed a variety of frozen foods (mysis, squid, clam, krill, shrimp, etc...) and dried algae sheets (green, red and brown). I have 2 false percs, a mandarin, a midas blenny and a kole tang. I rarely feed pellets (once in a blue moon) and I don't feed flakes.

I was just trying to say that there are much better foods than pellet or flakes. A frozen-only food diet is perfectly fine (second best over live seafood) provided the diet varies (different sea foods) and vitamin/ fat supplements are used. Thats all I feed my fish, along with algae sheets for the tang and omnivores.

The foods you need to feed your fish are those foods that are found in the sea. Read the ingredients list. If you find land products in the ingredients, shun those. Flake and pellet foods often contain wheat products used to bind the ingredients together. These wheat products are not digested by marine fishes.

You should read this post closely:
    Fish Health through Proper Nutrition
For information regarding pellet, flake, and disc foods, check under the heading of Flake, Pellet, Stick, and Disk Foods in the above linked post.

Regarding what Tangs should be fed, please read this post:
How To Feed Macro Alage to Marine Fishes

Macro algae from the sea contain the proper, high amounts of HUFAs. Land vegetable products do not contain much of this. Romaine lettuce contains some HUFAs but not enough to satisfy the needs of Tangs. We used to use lettuce in the old days because that is pretty much all we had, but the hobby has come a long way and the nutritional needs of fishes are better understood now. You can buy/acquire a wide variety of marine algae, both fresh and dehydrated. Make sure you read the above posts.

You might also want to look at this post:
    Table/Contents - Link List

The above link takes you to a post with many other links listed in it. You'll find all sorts of topics to read about, as it relates to keeping a FO and FOWLR aquarium and information on how to take best care of your fishes.

    Good luck!

well, it would still be okay to feed my fish pellets right? if i were to get 10 cerith snails and 10 super tongan nassarius snails, would that help clean up the leftover pellets that might harm my tank?

Re: Omega One vs Hikari fish food!

The undigested wheat products promote certain types of bacterial growth. In the meantime, this material passing through the intestinal track of marine fishes has led to their early death. Within their own system, this material has been thought to create blockages.

Why would you still want to feed foods that are not best for the fishes? The wheat takes the place of the proper nutrients that should be there to promote health.
