    rubber safe?

I am still preparing for my tank to start cycling so I bought a new Super Reef Octopus 3000 in sump skimmer. I noticed that to operate it at the proper depth the overflow splashes a lot and is loud. I bought a rubber PVC ell like this Fernco Drain Pipe Flexible Tee, fernco, fernco coupling, fernco couplings, fernco fitting, Waste Pipe Flexible Tee, Vent Pipe Flexible Tee, Fernco Drain Pipe Flexible, Drain, Waste and Vent Pipe Flexible Elbows, Flexible Plumbing Elbows | Fernco at home depot. I removed the metal so it just wedges on and cut a small hole with a knife for any back pressure. It's running quiet now but I didn't think if this rubber was toxic until now. Is this rubber safe? Have I just made my first big mistake? It says its made of pvc.

Is that rubber or ABS? (Black PVC?)

PVC is fine, especially the PVC made for the food industry. Always good idea to wash out new equipment and components before using them for the first time.

No worries, the return on a skimmer doesn't have any pressure on it, well not enough to blow pvc apart.
