We've recently established a 6gal Eheim nano tank (our third tank in the house ... not including our QT). Within the tank are live rock and few small zoanthus polyp rocks on a bed of fine live sand.
We just put in a very small false percula ... nice addition. What I'm looking to add is a sand sifter. The fine sand can't be vacuumed like aragonite, and stirring the tank doesn't do wonders, as the Eheim filter (sold with the tank) isn't the best for lifting detritus from the water column (unless it's right in front of the intake).
My concern with adding a sand sifter is that it will run out of food too quickly, due to the 6 gallon environment. Most sand sifters (even the smallest goby's) require 10 gallons as a minimum. We're only talking a difference of four gallons, but it's 40% of the total rating.
I don't want the little sand sifter to starve, so it would require more frequent feeding. My concern with an increased feeding schedule is added pollutants in the water column of the extremely small environment.
So ... if anyone has a nano tank of this size (or near equivalent) and has some experience and advice to share on the issue, I'm all ears.
Thanks!
