Which sand grain size is ok?

The last time I set my tank up I wanted the finest sand that I could get because I liked the way that it looked. It looked great in my tank, but I later discovered that it was a little too fine. I added a goby into the tank (i don't recall which one), and each time he dived into the sand, it looked like someone dropped a bomb in there. After several of these mushroom cloud sand bombs you couldn't see through the water anymore. Place rocks and doing any maintenance also caused the same issue.

So now i want to get the finest sand that I can, that want cause these issues. The problem is I don't recall what kind I had last time.
I use Arag-Alive, so it was either the 'moonlight sand', which looks like the sand i had (i just don't recognise the name). Or I had Bahamas Oolite which does sound familiar but I can't tell by picture if that is what i had.

Any suggestions? I'm looking at the two types below, so if anyone has used them before any feedback would be good.

    Bahama Oolite - .5mm - 1mm
    West Caribbean Reef - 1mm - 2mm

I have had crushed coral and carab sea live mixed with another standard white sand. The sand is sugar fine more or less and very clean. The crushed coral is a bit hard on inverts and sand dwelling animals I think. I prefer the sugar fine.

The 1 mm particle size will probably be good. Most substrates come in a range, so you can use a mix that is qualified as being 0.5 to 1.5mm
