Emperor Changing?
Does anyone have any idea when a juvie will get it's adult colors? I've had my juvie now for 14 months. He does appear to be slowly fading over the past month. How long does the process take?

Takes a long time. Had mine for several years and was a decent size before he started changing and still hasn't completely finished yet.

I've had mine for a year and just recently I'm seeing a slight hint of yellow coming through.
Let me ask some of you about your individual emperor's behavior... The one I have is @ 6" long, 4" when I got him last August. He can be a bit of a bully, but only to particular herbivores in the tank. Right now I have a powder brown tang, 2" smaller than the angel in there, and they do not fight. I also have a 5" picasso trigger, and he gets along with everyone. What are you keeping with yours? Thanks, Scott |

My Emperor is also the boss. He is the largest fish in my tank. He is with a flame angel, royal gramma, an anthias, a pair of banggai cardinals, purple firefish and a coral beauty (the beauty gets moved to my reef today).
The Emperor will eat almost anything offered. Flake, frozen, live brine and seaweed select. Mike |

scout,
It takes a long time. Also they seem to change slower in captivity or even never change completely. I had one for about a year which was changing but there was very little progress. Just give it time. I don't think there is a fixed time frame. Karun |
