    Talking added the first fish!

added the first fish to my 110 gallon fowlr today.he is a small 8-9 inch snowflake moray eel.he seems immediately at home ,explored the tank and finnally decided on a cave that suits him.i fed him a little shrimp and he came right up to the top of the rocks and ate out of my hand!i know hand feeding morays is a no-no but this guy is little and he couldnt hurt me if he tried (yet).ive decided that a dwarf lion will be his buddy in a couple weeks.the tank is looking pretty cool ,and i will post pics of my roquascape(did i just make up a new word?! )as i am pretty proud of it.

congrats buddy! 8-9 in is small ehhhhh....mine is tiny then my snowy is really shy he litterally will hide for 2 maybe 3 days at a time then suddenly he's out and about swimming around like there is no tomorrow. funny creatures to watch and good choice w/ the lion i'm very partial to them. amzing creatures aren't they. good luck switching your lion over to silversides or whatever you plan to feed. let us know how it goes.

my best freind has a 2 footer that is way more than twice as fat as mine.it seems were all getting snowflakes .i decided on the snowy because they seem to be the hardiest of the morays(i like to buy animals that do well in captivity.) and dont get too big.if my idiot freind can keep one for a year now,who wont listen to me ,or take my advice on aquaria even though he sees my tanks, he still listens to the idiot fishguy(not you lmao thats what everyone calls him)whos still reccomending wet-drys and bare bottom tanks(calls me an idiot for using a dsb!).

I've read that hand-feeding snowflake morays is a no-no, as well. However, every time I feed mine, I can't help but think about why that is. From everything I've seen, my snowflake doesn't have any teeth, and simply swallows his food whole.

I know that they tend to have terrible eyesight, and might accidentally bite the hand that feeds, but would that really be anything more serious than just a little nip?

morays, including snowflakes have teeth,my little guy was able to bite through the bag when i was floating him.the real danger of getting bit by a moray is that their teeth are extremely dirty, and any bite will almost certainly end up infected

the teeth will cut you worse if you pull back quickly, but are designed for crusteceans. Since you have a 110 why not go for a pterois specie lion?

most of the pterois lions are rather drab imo.i like the radiata(sp?),but my freind has one, along with a snowflake, and thats just too much of a bite .besides a few months a go i saw this awesome little dwarf lion at one of the lfs's.it was way more colorful than any lion ive seen, and i dint even ask what it was ,but its definitely what i want.

most likely the "volitans" you saw were actually russells lions. Russels are very drab indeed. They are usually called red volitans but infact they are not, in fact my lfs has one on sale for $135, hes about a 12" and he is incorrectly labeled as volitans. Go look at some real volitans, they will have the head flaps/ anttenae. The babies will look drab but they color up nicely with age. Also there is absolutely nothing drab about a black volitan, see a real one and you will be hooked.
