Hi:
this is stress related, either from stress in the aquarium(water quality) or from tankmates, and its a bacterial infection. So your call........ either treat w/ an antibacterial like SW maracyin(i believe its called maracyin2), or another tissue soluble antibiotic. Or get the fish healthy and it should clear up on its own...But don't wait for any more than 3-5 days, after this the fish could start having eye problems(permanently). frank |

is this an antibiotic that I can add to the main tank or do I need to place the fish in my back up? My fear is that if I move the fish I may cause more harm then good if its cloudy eye is stress related....
thanks for your help!

I too have a fish with a cloudy eye. I am so glad that someone else is going through the same thing. (not that I'm glad your fish is having problems) but I am a beginner, as i just added my "children" to thier new home about a week ago.
It's my Koran Angel that has the cloudy eye. Question: Where on earth do you get the antibiotic?? We have a PetCo nearby, or else i have to drive an hour to the saltwater fish store. And when i add the antibiotic, do i have to take him out? Will it hurt the other fish to add the medicine to the whole tank?? |

Elaine,
I have been using a newer product called "Melafix" that I got at my LFS. They not only recommened it, but some of my friends have as well. It is made by aquarium pharmaceuticals and they claim that it is reef safe for even corals. their website is http://www.aquariumpharm.com/aquariumhome2.htm To Quote from their website: Quote:

My fish also died...however we couldnt find the little booger and he was trapped under my rock. And I'm sad to report that this in turn killed ALL of my fish. We took down my tank yesterday and did a 100% water change and rinsed off everything. I tested the water and found ammonia and nitrites lurking in my tank to kill all of my fish!! I was very upset i tell you....Wonder what caused it???

sorry to hear that elaine. My 2nd heni has since disappeared. I started to take out my LR but fear killing other little critters so I left them alone. I tested my water again and everything is normal - so either the other little guy is hiding or when it died all my crabs ate it before it could wreak havoc on my tank.
Nothing worse then loosing a fish - even if its only a week old - still a part of the "Family" ![]()

I have used Melafix before also. It worked good, cleared up the cloudy eyes in a few days. My local fish store uses it and recommended it.
