70 FOWLR gal tank. 5 year old orbiculate batfish. Pop eye, cloudy eye, whatever you want to call it. Eye is protruding badly. Been treating food soaked in nitrofura-g. No skimmer, the pump (rio) went out. New pump is in the works. $$$$. 2 MJ power heads, 1/2' aragonite substrate. Emporer filtration system in place. Water changes every4-6 wks along with cartridge changes. Reef crystals. Absolutely no additives. Tank is 5 yrs. old well established. Is it this fish's time or do I need more research. Only other fish is a yellow tang (new) who is thriving. Water levels all ok. Have salinity down to 1.017 to discourage bacteria. All other parameters are good. Nitrates are high, but this is a FO tank.
Have a quarunteen tank but netting a 5 yr. old bat will only cause more damage. Help please. flower |

What do you consider high for nitrates. Nitrates over 50 are to high even for a FO system and can cause strain on the fish. If the nitrates are to high you should increase your water changes to every 3 weeks to help keep them lower and do several water changes over the next week or 2 to get the nitrates down.
