Too many cleaner shrimp?
I need to move two cleaner shrimp out of one of my tanks in order to make room for a small lionfish. I am debating on whether to move them into my other tank, which also has two shrimp, or get credit for them at the lfs towards the lion. I could get a $20.00 credit for the pair. Would 4 cleaners in one tank be too many. The tank is a 56 gal and I really have a nice balance, but would put the other two in if they would'nt crowd each other. Any suggestions? I need to make a decision by Friday. Thanks. JWT

If you are talking about Lysmata amboinensis (scarlet cleaner shrimp) every thing I have read and every one I've talked to says they are very communal. At Scripps here in SD there is a tank filled with them. I have heard from folks who say they have ten or twelve of them. I don't think you will have any problem.

Thanks for the replies. While I would feel comfortable placing them in the other tank, financial practicality wins out and I'll be trading them in for a $20.00 credit towards the lionfish. Thanks again. JT
