LR w/Puffers and trigger????

I have a 72g tank with 2 puffers and one trigger. It has decorative fake corals only. I know these fish are not for a reef tank, but can I replace the fake corals with live rock for filtration? I would like to get rid of the bio-balls in the sump and just use the sump for the heaters, skimmer, etc. Would these fish pick the live rock clean where there would be no filtration happening? I hate to part with the fish as they are like family

Thanks

Your LR should be fine. They may pick at some of the crabs unlucky enough to be noticed, but the filtration takes place deeper inside the rock.

I don't plan on any corals or invertebrates in this tank. I have another tank with reef safe fish with a few corals and lots of snails and crabs. I was just wanting see if I could use LR for filtration in my predator tank. It looks like I can. Now I can order the LR. Thanks for the feedbak.

What kind of puffers do you have? We had a large guinea foul puffer at the store i used to work at & it was always eating the liverock.

I have a dogface and a porcupine puffer. I did put a dried fungia coral that died in my reef tank in the FO tank. The dogface puffer ate on it for a few days but then stopped.
