    Question Marroon Clown Behavior Annoying!!

this fish will redistribute the sand on the entire middle of the tank(125) until the bottom is clear. it results in mounds of sand on each side and in front. i push it back and he wiggles his body and tail to move it out.
anyone else have one that does similiar stuff?

My maroon has her bare spot under a rock overhang, and gaurds it jealously. She's in the 40 gal caulerpa tank, so it doesn't matter.

But I have the hand's down FIRST PLACE WINNERS in the 100 gal FOWLR. These are 5 big 8"long convict blennies (engineer gobies)Pholidichthys leucataenia. They used to stay exclusively in the left 1/3 of the tank, so their digging wasn't a big deal. But now they've taken over the whole aquarium. Every three days, there is a completely different underground apartment system. They change the sand arrangement whether I mess with it or not. Thankfully, all the rocks are atop PVC pipe.

These guys are really cool fish, and I'm wildly attached to them, but I'd never consider one for a reef tank. Not only do they constantly dig, they deposit the sand all over the rocks. I need to blow it off with the turkey baster at least every other day.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, but it's the thought that counts.

My female maroon does the same thing.
Maroon clowns are natorious for this.
Far as I know there isnt anyting you can really do to stop it either.
I have egg crate under my sand to hold up the live rock so she can only dig down 1 inch.

I have a young immature Pair of Tomato clowns doing the same thing, right under their "home" which is the heater and filter intake. Constant excavation seems to make them happy. I also have my eye on a Clarki at lfs, it has been doing same thing in dealers tank for two weeks now. Today I watched it carry small snail away from hole it was digging and drop it on other side of tank. I guess it's just a clown thing, I doubt there's much you can do about it. Why not get this fish out of reef and into breeding tank, I think that's what it's trying to tell you!

I have one maroon fish I dont know if it is a male or femal ,it stay most the time in the anemone and dont let any other fish to get near the anemone and the maroon always feed its anemone.
I try to but another small maroon clown but the old maroon was very nervous when he see the new maroon and he bit him strongly and the new maroon had many damege at his fins because of the fight so I took it out and but it in the sump.

Hello anthias is it a true marroon clown and not the tropical one .when you buy a new clown try buying one the same size or bigger. the female is usualy the largest so if you buy one larger the other one could change sex to a male it sounds like yours is protecting its host and is most likely a female. is it a yellow banded or white banded marron.
