blue tang

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has an atlantic blue tang. I would really appreciate any advice on it and your experiences with it. I'm thinking about getting one as the last fish in the tank. I have a 55 gallon but I'm upgrading over the winter after the holidays. Right now I have a maroon clown, a purple firefish, a spotted tail gobie (dartfish), and 3 green chromis. I would love to get a juvenile and watch the color change. Would it be okay in may tank for a couple of months until I upgrade. I was planning on going with a 125-135 gal range tank would that be large enough to house an adult.

If you are talking about the regular blue tang, it is blue with a yellow tail, they are great fish! Very active fish. The only drawback is that they can get ick easier, they are called ick magnets, but if conditions are always kept good, and ick not introduced into the tank, the fish will do good. The 55 or larger is just fine. They don't have any color change though. They stay the same color, but just get big. This is the first fish that got my attention to saltwater fish some 25 years ago. I thought it was so strange that they are almost round when young. I also run a uv on my tank to help with parasites/bacteria.
Go get one.

Thanks Fishrule,

No, it's not a regal/hippo or a powder blue but it is in the same family as the powder blue. Hippos are beautiful fish though.
