Baby Bangaii CardinalFish...

I just spotted a baby bangaii cardinalfish in my tank - now what?

I have 2 percula clowns, 1 rock beauty angel, 3 bangaii's and one baby bangaii so far that i have spotted.....

Should i Separate him?

How exciting! How big is he? How long have the adults been in your tank?

he is very small...about the size of a penny if not smaller.. the adults have been in the tank since june of this year.....

I had noticed that one of them was not eating but thought maybe he had eaten, just not when i was watching. but then the next day my wife noticed that one of them had a "funky" jaw (must have been from carrying the eggs)...well. you know the rest of the story...

Do i need to put this little guy in his own area or remove him from the others so he does not get eaten or will he be left alone...?

Since he is so large already I'd just leave it and see what happens. Obviously he has been fending for himself since he was released otherwise he wouldn't be that large. The first brood my banggais had was 26 fry. Next time see if you can keep an eye on the parents and get the male just before releasing so you can have more fry and have a hand at raising them up.

Hi:
i too would just leave him alone. When they are born they are the size of an adult brine shrimp. if this ones is truely the size of a penny hes probably 3weeks to 1 month old. If you saw a male banggai w/ a bulging jaw recently, and its not bulging anymore he has recently released the fry. These banggais will breed about every 20-30 days. So once/month is average.
My guess is that the fry are ending up as tank food and the one out of 25-30(# of fry released w/ each clutch) makes it to the stage your seeing in your tank.

just decide next time if you want to try to grow more fry up..if so you have to catch them earlier.

no unfortunately the baby is no longer alive. But it is a sign that I have at least a female and a male...
