hey has anyone here breed percula clowns i have read that getting them to spawn is nothing compared to care for the larvae and can anyone tell my about rotifers and clowfishes by joyce wilkerson isnt that the best book on breeding clowns and everything youl have to know about rotifers and feeding the larvae

(just curios)

THe book is great for telling you how to get different clownfish how to breed, but as I recall, it didn't have too much in the way of how to culture rotifers (which, from what I understand is a real pain in the @$$).

Look for a book about culturing plankton, in order to grow rotifers, you also need "greenwater(water with a bunch of planktonic algae)" (I think)

THere was a plankton culturing book put out by Florida Aquafarms, florida mariculture, I can't remember the exact name, but it had Florida in it I remember (lots of help I know).

I'm sure other folks will chime in here, but that's my .02.

and yes, the WIlkerson book is fabulous.

Yep. The Plankton Culture Manual published by Florida Aqua Farms. Essential reading if you're serious about rotifer culture.

Yup, Wilkerson's book is all you need to know about breeding clowns and the Plankton Culture Manual from Florida Aqua Farms is all you need to know about culturing rotifers. Now if only my damned clowns would do thier part! As far as greenwater goes, that is what stops most people. Culturing algae is more work than the rotifers or the fish!! I have had a rotifer culture going for about two weeks now using Liquid Life Bioplankton. There are other products such as yeast based dry and liquid foods, i.e. Roti-Rich also from FAF. Moe suggests that a pretty good culture can be maintaind using enriched V-8 juice. Even if your goal is clownfish, I strongly suggest you add Moe's "Breeding the Orchid Dotttyback" to your reading list. Anyway, back to the Liquid Life. I have been working on a viable home breeding program for several months now and am convinced that LL Bioplankton is the way to go. I have some 7 week old seahorses that are growing like weeds on artemia nauplii enriched with the LL. They are also fed L. amboinensis larve also enriched (indirectly) by artemia and rotifers fed LL. If you get into this please contact me as I have a hard time finding others who are interestd in this aspect of the hobby.
