8 banded butterfly
A friend of mine gave me a 8 banded butterfly. The reason being...his fish did not like the new little guy. He is a very small discus type butterfly..very pretty. I have had him for 4 days....he is a very picky eater. My question...has anyone ever had this type of butterfly in their system? I looked on the internet.....very difficult to keep. I wish my friend did a little more home work before purchasing this fish. I do not want to see him starve to death. He is very alert, not aggressive at all...I just want him to eat more. Sometimes this is a challenge for difficult to keep fish. I am offering him a variety of brine, mysis..today I will get live brine.
Thanks Holly Eight-banded Butterflyfish Chaetodon octofasciatus |

That is definetly one on the hard if not impossible to keep fish. Scott Micheal's Marine Fishes gives it a 1 which means leave it in the ocean.
Micheal suggest for fish like these that feed almost exlusivly on sps to feed enriched brine shrimps, clam on the half shell, smashed squid, black mussel, or shrimp on a bleach stoney coral skeleton. Best of luck it is a very nice looking fish. |

Thank You for replying. Yes, I wish marine fish like this should be left alone in the ocean. I will try feeding the little guy like you mentioned. I just hate to see him starve. I have enriched brine..I thought I would try live brine.
Thank You for your help. Holly |
