HLLE, Lateral Line erosion, Hole in head
I would like to hear experiences of ppl that have had this on their fish, what they have tried, and successes.
I currently have a Kole tang in a 140g that apparently is getting this disease. The tank has low flow, and the tang has been hanging out in front of one of the outputs like he is striving for more current. I just added another powerhead into the tank (MJ1200) and have been feeding Nori soaked in Zoecon, and spinach soaked in garlic. I have also heard that Carrot shavings soaked in HUFA will help. Your thoughts appreciated. I feel soo bad for this fish as it has a big chunk taken out of its flesh. |

Scuba,
Soak all the food in Selcon and VitaChem for like 20 minutes before feeding (I found the combination better than Zoecon). Some researchers believe that the HUFAs in stuff like Selcon (or the absence of them) are what cause the disorder in the first place. I had that work with a kole. My friend had a hippo with serioius HLLE. She put the fish in a q-tank with heavy duty vitamins both in the water and on its food. It took about 3 or 4 weeks, but it did get better. The fish is not perfect -- his forhead still looks a little gnarly and pitted from the scarring, but NOTHING like it looked when it was in really bad shape. I'll see if I can find out exactly what she used. Rebecca |

OH yeah I have been out of Selcon....but have it ordered....just waiting for it to arrive.....Man this fish has got to be in pain.....I have also heard that putting them in systems that are exposed to Natural sunlight will help drastically but I know I would stress him out alot trying to get him out of the tank. |

OK Scuba...
It is 'Fish Solution' and is made by EcoSystem Aquarium. They are out of Irvine, CA. Hopefully it will work for you, too! R |

My first post back in a year at least...
![]() I have a Yellow Tang that has the start of this, with a few pinholes in the head. I have had him for 4 years now, and the condition has stayed the same since I got him. Selcon, algae, Nori, I've tried it all. He seems happy, healthy, and fat; not sure if they get perfect again. I'm sure mine got this in it's handling before I bought him. |
