Source Water Temperature
There is a discussion going on regarding the temperature of the source water feeding a unit. What is the desired temperature to feed a unit? Are there any downfalls, other than reduced production, of running cold water through a unit?

The membranes are tested at 77 degsF. That is when they make their full-rated output (with 60 psi tap water). 55 degsF cuts the production in half. 40 degsF cuts it in half again. There are no downfalls, other than reduced production.

Is there a way to control the water temp feeding the unit, other than guestimating by turning on a "little" hot water?
Is there a max temp at which you start to damage the membranes or DI? Thanks, Craig |

There are temperature-controlled mixers for home and laboratory use. Not cheap. If you need more water in the winter, get a bigger or second membrane. 100 degsF water is the maximum we recommend. Somewhere over that, the membrane can be damaged.

For people who use saddle valves for their feed water, which cannot be used on a hot water line, what is the recommendation?

A piercing saddle valve should be the last resort method for tapping a water line, anyway.
ANY other connection scheme should be considered first. I am unfamiliar with the fact that they can not (or maybe should not) be used on hot water lines. Mollie SpectraPure, Inc. |

I only learned that after the fact, the seal went bad within days and caused a leaky mess.
