August Meeting, BBQ/Frag Swap

Our meeting next month (August) will be a BBQ & Potluck - bring chair, a dish, and some $$ for frags and raffle tickets! Clear your calendar now, and reschedule your camping trips!

Michael (returnofsid) will be hosting at his home, let's all hope he knows how to BBQ.

Everyone is invited, even kids.

We will start around 3 PM and just work on into the evening.

Michael will be donating a frag pack to raffle off, and we may have a few other raffle items as well. We will also have a stock tank setup so if you have any frags you would like to bring to swap or sell, feel free to bring them along!

Now - If you are attending, please post here and tell us what you are bringing, that way we don't end up with 18 potato salads

Choices and ideas of things to bring:
Drinks - pop, juice, etc.
Chips - the crunchy kind
Salads - green, potato, macaroni, fruit
Condiments - ketchup, mustard, pickles, mayo
Snacks & finger food - veggie trays, cheese sticks, olives
Utensils - paper plates, cups, forks, spoons

or anything else you think of!

Ooops, I guess supplying the date would help, huh? I'd thought it was in the title. The meeting will take place, August 14th.


This is going to be A LOT of fun!!! We'll have a pool set up for the kiddies and a "pool" set up for frags!! It'll actually be a stock tank.

We have 10 lawn chairs.

Menu will include burgers, hotdogs and german sausages. I think we'll have basic condiments covered.

I've heard from someone, who will be bringing Xenia and Kenya Tree frags.

Let's not forget new members, who may be just starting out in the hobby and not have any corals to trade, nor a lot of money to spend. We all remember how that is!!

We will be donating 1 frag of Bob Moore's Blue Stag, for a club raffle. This will be separate from the "frag pack" raffle that we'll also put together.

For those of you who never met Bob Moore, myself included, he had an extensive history in helping get our hobby really going in the Pacific Northwest. He mentored the idea of "Pay it Forward." I'll go into more detail, of Bob Moore, the legend, and this particular coral, at the meeting.

Fun, Food, Frags and Frivolity begins in 3 days!!!

I have plenty of room. I set up a 100 gallon stock tank, in the garage, where it receives about 7-8 hours of sunlight. I've been growing a few corals in it, for the past month or so...lol. Today, I moved it out into the yard, where it will receive even more sunlight, in preparation for the meeting.

However, I can't guarantee all of your corals will end up gone, at the meeting...lol. So far, we don't seem to have near the turn out that we had last year. It'd be really helpful, if you are able to label them, so we know what's what.

I'm house sitting livestock for a couple different people, so some of that live rock and a few fish are in the stock tank. The 40 is also full of someone else's livestock...lol. Had hoped it'd be free soon enough to put all my frags back into it, but that hasn't happened yet. So, there'll be frag racks in the 200, still....... lol.

I really have no idea. As many as you want...lol.

I know a couple people, who won't be attending the meeting, who may want some. One is a member who's in the process of setting up his tank and the guy I'm holding livestock for.

I will bring over some green mille and some turbinaria and maybe a nana, I have not looked real close recently to tell you more about the nana. I also have some idaho grape that can be given away to a good home. Could you do me a favor and post this on the spokane site, I can't get there from my work computer??????? I would like to get rid of as much as possible Michael, I don't want them to become gravel in my driveway, and they are gonna be FREE. I don't care about the money end of this.

Frag Swap/BBQ is officially "in the books!" Wow it was a great success!! What an amazing turn out!! Did anyone take a head count? I didn't count, but don't think I'd be far off, if I estimated at least 30-35 people. We had people from Royal City (Central WA) to Kalispel MT (Vickie and Charlie made it over!!) and many points in between!!!

I usually would have the camera around my neck, snapping pictures like crazy. Since I didn't get a chance to, Charlie, thank you and hope to see a bunch of pictures posted soon!! I know you too a ton!

Ben, thank you for the help cooking!! Your Kabobs were amazing!! Osiel and family, thank you for the Enchiladas and other wonderful food!! To everyone, thank you so much for all the foods you brought over! Pam, thank you for helping Angie out, with the food preparation! WOW!!!! We had a ton of food.

Joanne, thank you for being willing to take care of the "business end" of everything.

Congratulations to the winners of all the great raffles.

The stock tank filled up with corals FAST, and a lot of corals were traded/sold/given away. I was amazed at how many corals changed hands and are now in new tanks. I hope everyone who was hoping to leave with corals, got to take a few good ones home!!

We saw a lot of new faces, met some great people and had a lot of fun!!

I'm sorry, that at times, I wasn't able to get to visit with each of you individually. I'd have liked to spend more time, getting to know some of the new faces. I'm so glad we had such a good turn out and quite a few new members. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!

So, Angie and I just put out heads together ( I have a lump on my forehead now) and counted everyone we could remember (with a lump on my forehead, my memory is now a lil' fuzzy, so we could have missed a few) and came up with 45 people!! This includes kids...lol. Yes, despite how we all feel sometimes, kids are people too!!
