Regarding PVC the term slip means the connecting fitting will slip inside. There is soft vinyl hose (usually clear) that is designed to be used with hose barbs and hose clamps. There is flexible white PVC hose (usually ribbed) that is meant to be glued to the inside of slip PVC fittings.

All you need is a couple of slip hose bards. If you cant get slip hose only threaded then get a couple of slip/threaded 1" couplers and 2 threaded hose bards.
Also need so pvc cement.

The white flexible hose is used in pool and spa installations. You can get it at any pool supply company.

PVC glue is safe for aquariums? I should know this being a NYC PLumbing Inspector and a former plumber but I've never used the pvc for anything having to do with my reef tank.
