    Wasted space

    Part of my circulation system includes a 400 gph HO pwr filter with the filter elements removed. I have plenty of LS and LR in my tank/fuge. To make use of this wasted space I would like to place some type of miracle mud for redundant ecosystem/filtration utilization. I am thinking about the following options;

    1) Use the mud with a minimum layer of LR on top to secure the mud.

    2) Forget the mud, and just add LR.

    3) Leave it as it is.

    I've never done mud before. I would just like to add this to my bag of tricks. It won't be much - maybe 9" by 4" by 5".

    Any opinions out there?

    Use it to run carbon a couple of times a month.

    I could use for that, but I allready use carbon in another area.

    So, again, wasted space. Did you say that because the minimal amt of mud I will be using will be ineffective?

    Or is mud not that that big of a deal?

    Don't forget option 2! One can't have too much LR, correct? ;;

    Since your allready doing some carbon then I would go with a little sand or mud and a few small pieces of live rock and have a mini refugium area then or just remove it unless you need the flow from it.
