    Quarantine Tank

I am planning on building a 10 gallon quarantine tank for my 40 gallon tank, is the 10 gallon ok? Could someone briefly explain how the tank should be setup as far as equipment needed and any other information you could provide. Thanks in advance.

Quarentine tanks can be very basic.
A 10 gall is fine depending on the size of the fish you plan to get but since you display is only 40 I would guess you fish will be small to 10 is good.
All you really need is a
    tank
    heater
    light source
and usally a power filter is best and easiest to maintian.
A few pieces of live rock would also be nice but you can also just take a piece or from your display when you are going to add fish as long as dont have to add any medications.

I like to use a little hang-on type filter for my qt tanks. I keep a bit of filter fiber in the main tank and just grab that and put it in the qt filter when I set it up. I also start with water from the main tank, so I do a water change at the same time I set up the qt. If I'm not planning to use medication I take a live rock from the sump. I'm going to be qt-ing a couple of fish in a few days that I may need to medicate, so I'm putting a decoration in the sump now to gather some beneficial bacteria, then it can be cleaned well afterward.

One little tidbit I picked up from a "reef buddy". When you bring home a new fish check the SG for salinity in the fish's shipping water. Set up your qt tank with close to the same salinity. You can gradually raise it to match your main tank as it gets closer to the time to put your new fish in its new home.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, but it's the thought that counts.

    jbjints,
If your going to be using cooper like others said don't put ANYTHING live in the QT tank. Also don't forget to take out the bio media because this will remove any meds that you have in your QT tank.
