Use Sea Clone Skimmer question
hi, am new to the salt thing and purchased a used Skimmer from a person in another city. Well its a backpack style sea clone and uses a power head. I guess there is suposed to be a hose with a air valve connecting to a sponge then that attached to a cone shaped item, which then attached to the intake of the power head . There is then a tube running to the bottom of the skimmer and overflows into the tank.
my question is i dont have the air tube, sponge, or cone just the power head and hose that runs to the skimmer. Will it still work? or do i need to have the air hose and such? |

Hi and welcome to the hobby.
I am currently running the same type of skimmer on my 45g hex. It's not the best, but will work for now until you can upgrade to a better one. To use the skimmer as designed, you will need the missing parts. The air line tubing is how the air gets into the water coloum thru a ventura to make the skimmer work. As I stated, it's not the most efficent, but it works. The biggest problem with the design is that it dosent actually skim the water from the surface, but below the surface. I have modified mine by removing the air line and cutting the water tubing to install flexable line so that I could place the inlet side of the pump at the waters surface. It will then skim at the surface as well as ingest air at the same time. However it does make some noise, but it works for now until I can get my new tank set up. Hope this helps some. Ray |
