Unhappy Nilson VS Calcium Reactor

Nilson VS Calcium Reator or both?

This may be a newbie question, but can someone explain the difference between these?

They seem to be very similar, except a Nilson uses fresh water, and has the benefit of also being used to top off the tank.

Can I use a Nilson reactor with Kalk and Fresh RO and get the same results as a Calcium reator? Or would I need both?

Thanks, Mike

I've used both and eventually sold the Nilsen to free up room. I just dose kalk with my dosing pump (Litermeter). If you have room and money for both, I would do both. Definitely the calcium reactor though. It would be hard to maintain calcium levels consistently without one. I use a myreefcreations calcium reactor and it's pretty good.

I have one in he basement that I built myself. They are nice in terms of beefing up the ca and keeping the PH nice and high in the tank. I ran both for a while too.

Now I just use a GEO reactor and it works great.

Hello!

Just found this forum, usualy I paruse reefcentral but I love finding new forums!

As far as the Nielson reactor, they are really easy to make yourself and you can fashion it to fit your stand perfectly. I think that is the best reason to build your own because taller is better.

I just made one because I dont have the $$ to shell out for a Knop.
