SKIMMER QUESTIONS from a new guy
now i know this may sound dumb to most of you, but i am new at this. I recently put on a Sea Clone Skimmer and the bubbler is working fine. byt it makes a yellow water in the collection cup. Is this normal?

skimmer results
well iit did seem a bit thick. it does not produce a constant froth. sometimes it is moving up into the container and others it is just bubbles still inside the chamber.
what do you suggest ? besides buy a new skimmer? |

What size is your tank? I don't believe that skimmer can handle anything larger than a 20-gal tank. There are other threads on this particular skimmer. Here is a typical one: Seaclone Protein Skimmer AQ Systems

If you haven't i would suggest not even purchasing it. It was a was of my $ I have heard a lot of great things about the MR-2 from www.myreefcreations.com though and am looking into one of these. I would recommend spending the $ on a good skimmer right away and getting it out of the way instead of nip picking at it
Hope if could help a little! |

ok
well i alredy bought it, but i got that and a fluvol 304 canister filter and some small items at a garage sale for $120. i have a 50gal tank with only 5 fish and about 40 pounds of live rock. so didnt think that i needed a huge skimmer, or even one at all.

Do yourself a favor and dump the canister filter!!! Why? you may ask....just read my post "canister filter added" and you'll know. A Skimmer is a must have piece of equipment. I have a 50 gal. reef tank and the skimmer i use is one by a company Called CPR and its a dual skimmer backpack. (meaning that it hangs on the back of your tank), and it works great. Its designed for a 100gal. tank, but i've read that its not possible to over skim...Also, never buy or use used filter equipment, you could be transfering bad minerals from their tank to yours (i.e. metals, medications, Diseases). |
