Skimmer for a 110 gallon tank.

I want the skimmer to be in line.

I was looking at the etss Evolution 500 Downdraft skimmer. And also the myreefcreations mr-1 beckett type skimmer.

Which skimmer would be better? Downdraft or Beckett?

I would like to choose between either of these models.

I'm worried about maintence on the beckett type skimmers. Do you need to clean the injectors or anythign to keep them operationg properly?

Not really familiar with the maintanence requirements of either of those but they both work very well. Have you checked out the Euroreefs? They are very nice skimmers and work just as well as the ones you mentioned. The also come with a very good pump. The also run almost silently.

Hi Scleractinia and Welcome to Reefland!

I'm not sure about the maintanence requirements on the beckett either but I too am interested as I am expecting a new one very soon. I sent a link to this thread to myreef to see if he will give us some details.

Regards,
Scott Z.

The maintenance of one of our becketts is minimal. I clean mine once every 4-6 months and or if I see foam production slow down. They are as easy as this to clean...the beckett pulls out of the injector and unscrews. Then a ring comes off the beckett...the beckett comes apart in half....just clean it out reverse the process to put it back together. It takes about 2 minutes to do all of that....If you have any other questions, let me know. HTH
