Cool Wet/Dry Question??

I'm in the process of setting up an Amiracle Wet/Dry filter on my 46 Gal. FOWLR tank. I have no fish in the tank yet but have 51 Lbs. of live rock and 40 Lbs. of live Sand. My question is should I use the Bio Balls or not? Is a wet/Dry the way to go?

Thanks
Tom

Good afternoon Tom...

I have Bio balls in my Refugium just to help with Micro bubbles, but they are completely submerged and Most get very little flow.

As far as actually dripping water over them I don't think you NEED them and at this point in your setup it's definately easier to leave them out then it is to put them in and take em back out later

Oh Yeah, WELCOME TO REEFLAND!!!!

Hi Tom!

I would not bother with the bio-balls as they can become a detritus trap if not cleaned often and use the "wet/dry" more for equipment storage space such as a skimmer, your heaters, etc. If you decide to use the bio-media, make sure it is fully submerged as Poseidon mentions and also make sure that they are not going to become waste traps. If they do, they will need frequent cleanings and then the purpose is completely wasted as you'll be killing off the bacteria they house.

Regards,
Scott Z.

Has anyone tried the Amiracle Pl 1000 wet /Dry?? I've herd a lot of good things about them.
