Red Sea Berlin Turbo ??

As the title says, I have a Red Sea Brelin Turbo skimmer. The problem is that the pump died. What can I do to resurect this skimmer. My tank does not have any fish in it at the moment but I can see them coming in the near future. I need a good recomendation for pumps that will run the Berlin Turbo as well as their requirements. Thanks to all that can help!!

Ryan

Hey Ryan!

A Rio 2500 or Mag 7 is what is recommended for this skimmer so I would go just a hair more and hook up a Mag 9 to it.

The Mag Drive pumps are a bit more costly that the RIO's but a much more reliable pump. The RIO 2500 is rated for 750gph and the Mag 9 is 150gph more at 900 gph; I think it would work our nicely!

Scott Z.

Scott,

Thanks for the reply!!!

But I have a question. Since the Berlin Turbo has a built in device that puts Air into the skimmer, how do I do this with an aftermarket pump? Does it require some sort of venturi device or should I be looking at padding myreef's pockets?? I am a truely small time reefer.

Is the device for air built on to the skimmer or the pump?

I learned a neat little trick you can use a little air pump and but the air hose right in front of the MAG pumps inlet and Instant AIR INJECTION really fine bubbles too, cause they are chopped up by the pumps impeller...

thats a simple fix if the air injection was built on to the old pump if its built into the skimmer just hook up the new pump and away you go!!!

orion,

I am not familiar with the Berlin Turbo but have seen a Mag 7 recommended (Premium Aquatics I beleive) so there has got to be a way to hook it up.

You say it has a built in device, it has got to hook up to the pump output somehow to pull air in and generate the bubbles right? How was it hooked up with the old pump?

Sending some dough to myreef is a good option too, his skimmers are awesome! However if your happy with the Red Sea, there is a way to hook up a new pump to it.
