Unhappy Fish get in overflow

Does anyone have any ideas on how to screen out small fish from getting into their overflows? I have two built in corner units and they constantly catch the small guys that are up there at night. I'm out of ideas. Thank you.

Hi drilldr and Welcome to Reefland!

How large are the slots in your overflows? Or better yet, do they have any slots at all?

You might try to rig up a piece of egg crating to cover the slots and that should prevent any fish (unless they are very small) from being "sucked down".

Regards,
Scott Z.

The slots are approx. 3/8" wide is my guess. The chromis i have are small and sleep at the top at night. I have thought about eggcrate. Is this the same matr'l at Home Depot used for overhead lighting? Thanks for the reply.

Another idea is to use plastic gutter guard. You can get it at any home center for about $5 for a roll. It's the stuff you put on your gutters to keep the leaves out. Cable tie a few pieces around the top of the overflow. Bob

Thanks for the great idea. I'm going to do just that. Really appreciate the help. Shawn
