stench from my skimmer

ok guys, ive had it with the smell of my house secondary to the skimmer filth that collects in the cup. does anyone know of a n additive to the filter cup that i can add to kill that terrible smell? theres got to be something to kill it out there. cleaning the cup every 2 days or so still does very little to help. so anyone have this problem too? thanks John

You should be happy that you have this smell. At least you know that your skimmer is doing its job.

oh it does its job allright and thankfull too but its gonna make me disconnect it. it makes it hard to breath it for me, for some reason. anyone know a solution?

Yes there is a solution The smell is likely from the air exiting the skimmer collection cup vent hole. Take a old nylon or other bag that you can put some carbon in and put 1/2 cup of carbon in it (the same type you use in your tank) and place it over the vent hole. No more smell. It should last 6 months or so before you need to replace the carbon.
