I hear ya on a few of those issues. I have the largest CPR overflow. Mine doesn't break the siphon unless I have been lazy and not scraped it clean of algae. It is a bit noisy, but it works ok for me. I also have the big-mama filter with the dual built in skimmers. The PH's they send are crap and don't bubble the way a skimmer should. I even attached air lines to an air pump. They bubble better, but still not enough to please me.

When I move and rebuild my filtration, I am going to build my own Beckett skimmer and sump. I think that the CPR filter/skimmer box would work good for a FO tank, and that's what I plan on using it for.
