what is a refuge
whaat is a refuge. what is it use for and the purpose if it?

It is a place to grow Macro algae's, bristle worms, copepods, amphipods, and other helpful critters away from predators. (fish) THe algae works for nutrient export so that you don't have Diatom type algae growing in your tank. The critters are good for filtration. It's just a way to get a good natural filter for your tank.

what would i need to start up a refugium? i got the continer just need the substrate in it.

Here is a picture of ours. Still a work in progress though. I am going to put at least 2-3 inches more of live sand. Plus throw a few more pieces of lr in it.
