    gate valve or ball valve??

I was wondering what type of valve would work better for controlling the output flow from my external pump from the sump. I have a ball valve for it but was thinking that a gate valve would be better. I would rather save the dough on those over priced and way too big gate valves on something else, but wanted to get the experts opinion on this before my final pipe glue in.

Yes gate valves are more precise, but I think you will have no problem dialing in a ball valve... I didn't. (And I'm no expert)

Gate valves are radically more precise. If there is any control dealing with minor increments in flow, a gate valve is night and day better.

But if you just need an on/off valve, a ball valve is fine
    Play well

Well being that we just had the same question come us for ourselves. We decided to go with the gate valve. It is worth the extra $4.00. Some of the ball valves suck air into the lines which causes more bubbles. If you do decide to go with the gate valve, make sure it is a true gate valve and not a stop valve. Good Luck!
